Jacques
The Rat King
"Is it a sin to dream? Then I must be the devil. "
Bio
Jacques Lebeau is an unconventional young man who has found extraordinary success as an entrepreneur. He has poured countless hours into the study of machines, clockwork, and the occult, leveraging this knowledge to create home appliances, automata, and other innovations that have dramatically transformed the world around him. Despite his groundbreaking achievements, Jacques shuns the fame and fortune that typically accompany such success. Instead, he prefers to remain in the shadows, allowing various proxies to take the credit for his inventions while he quietly reaps the financial rewards, enjoying a life of quiet, yet luxurious, solitude.
Jacques's paradoxical decision to amass wealth while remaining a recluse is deeply rooted in his mysterious and troubled upbringing, a topic he avoids discussing. Whispers abound that Jacques endured a childhood marred by abuse, forced to live in squalor, and at times, in conditions more harrowing than homelessness—all at the hands of a neglectful, embittered father who resented his very existence. His hard-earned riches, disdain for criticism, and solitary lifestyle seem to be both a defiant response to and a rejection of his past, a vow to triumph against all odds while fiercely ensuring that no one ever dares to wrong him again. To combat his loneliness, Jacques surrounds himself with mechanical marvels—clockwork men and women who serve as his loyal companions. Each possesses a unique personality and could easily be mistaken for human, save for the occasional robotic tic that betrays their true nature. These technological masterpieces are the one invention Jacques guards jealously, believing that no one else is worthy of his greatest work.

Jacques, with his inventive and eccentric nature, often creates unusual and bizarre contraptions. One such creation is a weapon that resembles a corkscrew, ribbed with thorn-like protrusions. While not sharp along its length, the weapon is extremely pointed, making it highly effective for penetrating stabs and thrusts. Once embedded, a twist of the corkscrew reveals its sinister function: it digs deeper into the flesh, and when violently yanked out, it causes severe injuries, potentially disemboweling or maiming the victim. The corkscrew design also allows it to wrap around and entangle an opponent's blade, providing Jacques with a means to disarm and overpower them. Originally conceived as a dark novelty during a vengeful daydream, Jacques wondered what kind of wounds would inflict the most pain on those who had wronged him. However, to date, the only beings subjected to this gruesome creation have been disobedient automatons, much to their mechanical misfortune.
