Bio

Bijou is one of the clockwork automatons created by Jacques. Where Umbral was made for efficiency, Bijou seems to have been made from the heart. She is generally sweet, and somewhat motherly, including a mother's occasional propensity for sass. She is utterly loyal to Jacques and is one of his primary sources of comfort. Though her personality was given to her by Jacques, it is still very much her own, as all of the servants retain a certain level of agency over themselves. In spite of all of his flaws and mistakes, Bijou is able to understand what has brought Jacques to this point, she truly believes she is doing good by serving him.

Due to her nature and her line of work, she is probably the servant who finds themselves on Jacques' nerves the least, if ever at all. She effectively acts as his maid, tending to his daily needs, delivering food and drink diligently and with punctuality. But her true purpose is likely that of an impromptu counselor, as Jacques finds himself confiding in her during his most private moments. Bijou however, when it comes to this, is as quiet as a mouse.

Trivia

  • She is modeled after Jacques' mother in appearance and a pet mouse he once had as a child.

  • As such, Bijou is made with all the same features, flaws, and blemishes that he can recall about his mother out of artistic respect for her. 
 
  • The other servants hold Bijou in high regard and have a great deal of respect for her. Even Umbral, who is often considered "the leader" of the servants will follow Bijou's wishes and instructions when asked.
 
  • Bijou was made to be capable of performing all the same work and duties as Umbral and Nine, however Jacques has simply never requested her to. 
 
  • Bijou is the only automaton who has not been "uncorked."

  • Bijou seems to treat all guests on the Lebeau estate with respect and all pleasantries one might expect, including people that might otherwise be considered an "enemy."

Jacques is treated very well by Bijou to the point some might say that she loves him like a mother does their own child. She senses a great deal of pain within Jacques underneath everything he has on the surface, and though she may not be able to solve or undo many of those things for him, she is committed to doing the best she can to comfort him or lessen that pain until he finds the relief  he is looking for.

Oliver Holliday

Though Bijou tries to treat all guests on the estate with respect and kindness, Oliver is perhaps the person she shows the most enthusiasm towards. Oliver is the first real friend Jacques has had in a long time, or ever, as far as her own memory can tell. Though not overtly obvious, the other servants have detected a notable glow in the way she speaks to and serves Oliver, which the other servants recognize as high praise. 

Peter Kovsky

Peter is not exactly well liked within the walls of Jacques' estate, but perhaps the one and only person who seems to show him any compassion is Bijou. However, this should not be mistaken for kindness or even sympathy. In this particular instance, Bijou is strictly operating off of her programming, which insists that he be treated with neutrality at the absolute worst. Peter seems to know this, and as a result is not particularly fond of Bijou, despite the fact she is the least adversarial of all the automatons.

Nine Mouseling

Where Umbral would strongly chastise Nine for his usual mistakes, Bijou tries to take these moments and use them to guide Nine. As with Jacques, Bijou is often a source of comfort for Nine. He will often hang his head and apologize, not unlike that of a child, despite his artificially established age, but Bijou dusts him off and sets him right back on his feet with dignity. Nine often tries to do his best around Bijou, seeking her approval and recognition.

Umbral Mouseling

Bijou sees Umbral as a diligent and hard worker, and often sympathizes with his inability to not speak sharply or coldly. Though instances are rare of it ever happening, Bijou has been there as a source of comfort for Umbral. Though she wishes that he would go a little easier on Nine, and perhaps be a bit more understanding towards Jacques, she herself seems to understand that all people are unique in their flaws and personalities. She works very well with Umbral, especially during dinner and other culinary related services.
